FAQ

Can I change the number of people in my party?

We ask that you contact us at least three days in advance if you wish to change the number of people in your party. Changes that are within accommodation capacity are accepted. However, the total accommodation cost depends on the number of people. (Please do not exceed the maximum capacity.) We will inform you of your updated accommodation cost before check-in.

What time are check-in and check-out?

Check-in is at 3 PM and check-out is at 10 AM.
For late check-out, the following charges apply:
20% of nightly room fee for up to 2 additional hours
50% of nightly room fee for up to 4 additional hours
100% of nightly room fee for over 4 additional hours
Please contact us if you wish to check in early.

What options are available for food?

To preserve the machiya mercantile homes, we ask that you do not cook in the house. Utensils for making coffee, snacks and light meals are provided.
Kusamakura is located in central Kyoto with many restaurants nearby, including cafés and tearooms open in the morning, and many places for dinner. For recommendations or delivery to your accommodation, please contact us.

Is there a refrigerator I can use?

Yes, a refrigerator is supplied that you can use freely.
(Please be aware that all items left in the refrigerator after check-out will be disposed of.)

Can I send luggage to the inn in advance?

As our reservations are for an entire home, it depends on the delivery time and the status of other reservations. Please send us an email or call if you wish to send your luggage in advance.
Please be aware that we do not accept fresh foods or other perishable items for safe keeping.

Is everything I need for an extended stay available?

All items including furniture, electrical appliances and bedding are prepared for you at Kusamakura. Netflix is also available for viewing.
Towels, linen and futons are also prepared for your comfort. However, sleepwear such as yukata (light summer kimono) is not. We respectfully ask that you provide your own.

Can I bring my pets with me?

To maintain the pristine quality of the mercantile homes, we ask that you do not bring pets.

Is smoking allowed?

We apologize to our smoking customers, however, to preserve the homes, smoking is not allowed. Please understand that the building is made of wood and fire hazards are a risk.

Can I throw a party and make noise as I would at home?

Kusamakura is located in central Kyoto, but we ask that you refrain from making noise late at night or doing anything that might disturb the neighborhood residents. Failure to comply could force us to ask you to leave. In such cases, payment will not be refunded.
We appreciate your understanding of these special mercantile homes in Kyoto, and their underlying philosophy. We ask for your cooperation.

Do you have a parking lot?

There are many paid parking lots located near Kusamakura. Please let us know upon reserving a room if you plan to arrive by car.

Do you have parking for bicycles or motorbikes?

There aren’t any parking spaces for bicycles or motorbikes, and we ask that you refrain from parking in the street.

Is there internet access available?

High-speed, wireless internet is available within Kusamakura.

Who should I contact in case of emergency?

A ‘handy’ smartphone is available in your accommodation at Kusamakura, allowing you to directly contact staff. Services are available in three languages: Japanese, English and Chinese. In addition to emergencies, please contact the staff whenever necessary, such as if you get lost while sightseeing, or if you want to make a restaurant reservation. The service is available from 8:30 AM to 10 PM.
